On every plan you can share individual vault items with other Atrium users. Items shared with you appear under Shared with me.
How sharing stays private
Every user has a key pair: a public key others can use, and a private key protected by their master password. When you share an item:
- Your device opens the item's key (you must be able to open the item to share it).
- Your device seals that key to the recipient's public key.
- Our server stores and passes on the sealed key, which it can't open.
The recipient's device opens it with their private key. At no point does our server hold a key that can decrypt the item.
Schedules still apply
If a shared item is time-locked, the schedule applies to everyone it's shared with.
Stopping a share
Unsharing removes the recipient's sealed key, so they can't open the item again. Anything they already saw may have been copied: stopping a share controls future access, not memory. For a password, change it after unsharing if that matters.
